Equestrian Venues in Greater London
You can ride in London more easily than most people expect, though rarely in the middle of it. The capital's stables cluster where the city loosens its grip: the edges of Richmond Park, Wimbledon Common, Trent Park to the north, the Lee Valley out east, and the Hyde Park stables that still put riders out onto Rotten Row. Saddl lists 42 venues across Greater London, and 26 hold BHS approval. That's a strikingly high proportion, and it reflects how the London schools work. Space is dear, so the yards that survive tend to be well run, well staffed and properly accredited. Expect to pay more than you would in the shires, and expect waiting lists for regular lessons and livery. What you get back is genuine convenience, instruction you can reach without leaving the city, and in a few places the slightly surreal pleasure of hacking past Georgian terraces. Beginners are well served, with most schools running lead-rein and group lessons for children and returning adults. If you want open ground rather than an arena, head for the parkland yards on the southern and northern fringes, where the Royal Parks and commons give you room to move.
