Equestrian Venues in Berkshire

Berkshire is racing country, and the horse runs through its identity. The Lambourn valley is one of the great training centres of British flat and jump racing, its gallops busy at dawn, and the Downs above give firm, fast riding on chalk. Saddl lists 17 venues, 6 BHS-approved. Alongside the racing world there's polo, with established clubs near Windsor, and the usual mix of riding schools and livery serving an affluent commuter county. Hacking on the Berkshire Downs is excellent, open and quick on good going, while the Thames-side country to the east is gentler and more wooded. Prices reflect a wealthy corner of the south. For beginners there's a reasonable choice of schools, though the county tilts more towards owners and competition than towards teaching. Royal Windsor and its showground add a competitive focus, and the area hosts fixtures across the disciplines. For experienced riders, the draw is the Downs and the proximity to so much horse expertise in a small area. Few counties wear their racing heritage as openly, and on a clear morning above Lambourn it's easy to see why people stay.
