About this yard
Windsor Horse Rangers is a volunteer-led charity set up in 1972 to teach children with no access to ponies how to care for, handle and ride horses in a safe, supportive environment. 22-24 horses and ponies live on the farm in Fifield, cared for by the young Rangers themselves as part of the programme.
This is not a drop-in or publicly bookable riding venue. It runs as a structured membership programme for around 170-180 children aged 8 to 18, who attend on Saturdays or Sundays (3-8 hours per session) across 50 weekends a year, following a syllabus that develops as they progress through the Rangers. Membership is open to children regardless of background, but access is through the club directly rather than booking an individual lesson.
Facilities
What to wear
Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.
A hat to a current recognised safety standard. Requirements can vary, so check with the yard before you ride.
Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs should be covered, and waterproofs are worth having for outdoor lessons. Check with the yard if you are unsure.
Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
