About this yard
Aldersbrook Riding School and Livery Stables is a well-established yard located on Empress Avenue in east London, tucked alongside Wanstead Park and five minutes from the open spaces of Wanstead Flats and Epping Forest. With both a large indoor school and an outdoor arena, the school offers all-weather riding year-round, and the adjacent green spaces provide excellent off-road hacking trails for more experienced riders. BHS-qualified instructors offer private, semi-private, and small group lessons from complete beginners to more experienced riders. The school is particularly known for its welcoming community atmosphere and careful approach to rider confidence. Pre-school and under-8 morning sessions are available, alongside children's activities including grooming sessions, birthday rides, holiday shows, and competitions. Basic livery is also offered for local horse owners.

What to wear
Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.
A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.
Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.
Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
Clients arriving in unsuitable clothing or footwear may not be permitted to ride, for their own safety. If in doubt, contact the yard before your visit.
