Equestrian Venues in North & Mid Wales
North and Mid Wales is trekking and trail country at its best. Snowdonia in the north and the Cambrian Mountains through the middle give some of the wildest riding in Britain, and the region has a long tradition of long-distance trail rides that cross the hills over several days. Saddl lists 18 venues, 9 BHS-approved. The mainstay is riding out over open hill, forestry and moor, usually on Welsh ponies and cobs that know the ground. Several centres specialise in multi-day trail riding, which makes this one of the few parts of Britain where you can genuinely point a horse at the horizon and keep going. There are riding schools too, particularly near the coastal and market towns, but the pull here is the country itself. Distances and remoteness are real, so plan journeys and go prepared for mountain weather in any season. For visitors, the trekking and trail centres are an easy way in. For experienced riders, the chance to cover real ground across the Welsh hills is the kind of thing people travel a long way for.
