About this yard
Underhill Riding Stables is a busy family-run yard at Underhill Farm in Dolau near Llandrindod Wells, Powys, established around 1991 and grown from a green field into a riding school set within 100 acres of grass, woodland and hills in unspoilt Radnorshire countryside.
Lessons run in two outdoor arenas for beginners through to more advanced riders, including showjumping and cross-country for the experienced. Hacking is offered in a range of lengths: a leisurely hour around the farmland and hills for less experienced riders, or longer rides up into Radnor Forest with scope for a good gallop. Beginners can combine a lesson with a walk around the fields. Horses and ponies suit all ages, with a rider weight limit of 14 stone. Visiting coaches run group and individual clinics through the year.

Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs should be covered, and waterproofs are worth having for outdoor lessons. Check with the yard if you are unsure.
Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
