About this yard

Havard Stables is a BHS-approved riding school in Pembrokeshire, holding the unique distinction of being the only RDA Accessibility Mark centre in West Wales. It offers riding lessons for all abilities in a welcoming, inclusive environment. Located between the village of Dinas Cross and the town of Newport in North Pembrokeshire, providing horse and pony rides over the Preseli Hills with views across Cardigan Bay. Licensed with Pembrokeshire County Council since 2002. Alongside lessons and trekking, the centre runs a weekly Saddle Club, holiday Pony Days, picnic rides and disability sessions. Closed most Mondays to give the horses a day off.

What to wear

Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.

Riding helmet

A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.

Footwear

Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clothing

Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
