About this yard
Toulston Polo Club was established in 1913 by the Riley-Smith family and has been run by the Haigh family since 1991, when the second pitch was added. The 45-acre site near Tadcaster sits a stone's throw from the A64, secluded by a ring of mature trees. Jim Haigh has been a national HPA official for decades. Chukkas and tournaments run April to September, with the Toulston Polo Academy taking lessons from April to the end of the season. The Silver Jubilee Tournament has been played here annually since 1977; the Sunday finals are a ticketed three-day event with marquee and lunch.

What to wear

A hat to a current recognised safety standard. Requirements can vary, so check with the yard before you ride.
Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs should be covered, and waterproofs are worth having for outdoor lessons. Check with the yard if you are unsure.
Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
