Bilsdale Riding Centre
About this yard
Bilsdale Riding Centre is run by the Caines family from Shaken Bridge Farm at Hawnby, set in a remote and striking valley between Helmsley and Stokesley in the North York Moors National Park. The centre's network of bridleways, green lanes, forest paths and open moorland makes for riding that's hard to replicate elsewhere in Yorkshire.
Regular rides go out daily, typically twice, a morning session from 10am to 12 noon and an afternoon from 2pm to 4pm. Full-day rides run from 10am to 4pm with the option to buy lunch en route. All rides are ability-matched; the horse string ranges from forward-going horses for more experienced riders through to reliable schoolmasters for beginners and nervous riders.
The centre also runs BBQ rides, Pony Days for children under 16 (combining a ride with horse care sessions), Rusty Rider afternoons for adults returning to the saddle, and week-long residential holidays during the summer for both children and adults. For children, the residential weeks cover riding, stable management and outdoor activities in the Moors setting.
