About this yard

Wayside Stables is a family-run BHS approved riding school in Fifield, Maidenhead, set in the heart of the Berkshire countryside. Horses, ponies, BHS qualified instructors and facilities to suit every rider from absolute beginner to advanced competition. Hacks in Windsor Great Park, pony days, clear round jumping, cross country and competition at local and BSJA affiliated shows. Pony parties for birthdays. Livery available. Loan service for those wanting to learn stable management before owning a horse.

From £40/hr

Group 1-hr lesson from £40 child / £45 adult (4+ riders). Private 30-min from £45 child / £55 adult. Semi-private 30-min from £35 child / £40 adult. Windsor Great Park 1-hr hack £110 (weekdays), 2-hr £145. Lead rein 30-min from £25 + hat. Hat hire £3, boot hire £5. BHS approved, RDA sessions. Windsor Great Park access. Prices from January 2026.

What to wear

Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.

Riding helmet

A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.

Footwear

Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clothing

Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
