About this yard
The Diamond Centre for Disabled Riders is a registered charity (no. 1045970) on Woodmansterne Road in Carshalton, on its present site since 1974. A founder member of the Riding for the Disabled Association and BHS approved, it is one of the largest purpose-built centres of its kind in the UK, and the only centre in the London region specialising across all fields of riding for the disabled, riding, dressage, carriage driving, vaulting and hippotherapy.
Around 350 riders attend each week, aged from 3 to 75+, with disabilities including cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and learning difficulties. Sessions may be mounted or unmounted and are designed to deliver physical, sensory, educational and communicative benefits, supported by coaches, staff and a large volunteer team. Demand is high and there is a waiting list.
The centre has more recently introduced able-bodied riding lessons to supplement its charitable income. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 9am-5pm. Note the site is within the LEZ and ULEZ zones.

What to wear
Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.
A hat to a current recognised safety standard. Requirements can vary, so check with the yard before you ride.
Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs should be covered, and waterproofs are worth having for outdoor lessons. Check with the yard if you are unsure.
Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
