About this yard
Safe Equestrian at Sandhall Farm, Holmes Lane, Winterton is a 5-star licensed, award-winning riding and education centre run by Samantha Humphries, next to the Winterton agricultural show ground. All staff are safeguarding trained and enhanced DBS checked.
Riding lessons are open to all ages and abilities, starting with an assessment then group or private sessions. Weekly clubs run for Pony, Youth, Home-Ed, Adult Saddle and Jump groups, alongside pony parties, camps and events.
Alongside the riding school, Safe Equestrian is an ASDAN and Functional Skills registered centre with Ofsted registration, providing therapeutic learning support and alternative education provision for students aged 8-16 who are struggling in mainstream settings, combining horsemanship with IT, English and Maths, and serving schools, PRUs and home-educated learners. Referrals come through schools, virtual schools, social workers and family support workers.
Livery options include full, working, holiday, schooling and recovery livery, with stabling and part-year grazing. The site has step-free access and is guide dog friendly.

What to wear

A hat to a current recognised safety standard. Requirements can vary, so check with the yard before you ride.
Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs should be covered, and waterproofs are worth having for outdoor lessons. Check with the yard if you are unsure.
Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
