About this yard
Polmartin Riding is a BHS approved riding school and trekking centre near Herodsfoot, between Liskeard and Lostwithiel in south-east Cornwall. The yard runs all year on its own traffic-free tracks and trails, with an all-weather school and floodlighting allowing evening lessons. Family rides are open from age 5; children take individual lessons from age 12. Intensive courses with on-site accommodation in shepherd's huts or a converted barn are available for riders working towards specific BHS qualifications. The yard also takes film and TV work with horses.

A hat to a current recognised safety standard. Requirements can vary, so check with the yard before you ride.
Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs should be covered, and waterproofs are worth having for outdoor lessons. Check with the yard if you are unsure.
Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
