About this yard
Penhalwyn Trekking Centre & School was first established in 1979 by Sylvia, Lloyd and Vaughan Bennett at Goon Mine Mellyn, Halsetown near St Ives. An ABRS approved member, it offers riding lessons from age 4 upwards, DIY livery and trekking through the moorland behind Zennor and the West Penwith countryside, including one to three-hour hacks and pub rides.
Lessons progress each rider at their own pace from walking to trotting, cantering and jumping, with stable management incorporated for those over 8 who wish to arrive early or stay late. Private lessons cover flatwork, jumping, lateral work and dressage. A weight limit of 13.5 stone (14 stone in riding clothing) applies, with riders sometimes weighed to protect the horses. Bookings require a deposit or full payment, with 48 hours' cancellation notice.

What to wear
Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.
A hat to a current recognised safety standard. Requirements can vary, so check with the yard before you ride.
Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs should be covered, and waterproofs are worth having for outdoor lessons. Check with the yard if you are unsure.
Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
