Barguse Riding Centre near St Austell is a BHS approved and Pony Club centre focused on technical training for all levels. With top instructors and a calm, friendly setting, Barguse is ideal for serious learners and leisure riders alike. Structured, skills-based coaching from qualified instructors. Pony Club centre offering badge programs for kids. Indoor and outdoor arenas with show jumps, on-site tack shop and viewing areas for parents and spectators. Owned and run by Lisa and Alistair Todd, Barguse was the first riding school in Cornwall to achieve Clubmark accreditation, one of only 24 equestrian establishments in the UK to hold this status. As well as riding, teaching covers stable management, handling and general horse care. The centre is home to 28 horses and ponies across 26 acres, and also offers specialist equestrian mindset coaching, a disability Accessibility Mark session, and a popular Children's Saturday Club. Bookings by phone only, with payment required in advance.

Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.
A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.
Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.
Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
Clients arriving in unsuitable clothing or footwear may not be permitted to ride, for their own safety. If in doubt, contact the yard before your visit.
