Cowdray Park Polo Club was founded in 1910 on the sweeping grounds of the Cowdray Estate near Midhurst and is widely regarded as the home of British polo. The club hosts approximately 450 matches per year and is the venue for the Cowdray Gold Cup, the British Open Polo Championship, played at 22-goal high-goal level and attracting the largest single polo audience in the UK. The grounds span two principal sites with up to ten grass pitches in total. The Polo Academy at Madam's Farm is run by registered polo coach Guy Verdon and offers tuition for complete beginners through to experienced players, with ponies and equipment provided. Sessions run across the summer season and include junior programmes for riders aged 12–18. The Ambersham Clubhouse was extensively renovated in 2022–23, cementing Cowdray's position as the definitive polo destination in England.
