Learn to ride on the Mongolian steppe, finishing at the Naadam Festival

A Mongolian horse-riding adventure with Bronco Wild Club, built for beginners: a few days of guided lessons near Ulaanbaatar to build skill and confidence, then a ride out across the steppe on hardy Mongolian horses, timed to finish at the Naadam Festival with its wrestling, archery and horse racing. Nights are in traditional ger (yurt) camps.

Designed for beginners and improvers: the trip starts with guided lessons to build confidence before heading out across the steppe. You should be reasonably fit and happy to spend hours in the saddle, but no experience is needed.

The horses

Mongolian horse

Small, hardy, semi-wild Mongolian horses, tough and sure-footed, at the heart of nomadic life.

A typical day

The first days are spent learning to ride and handle the horses near Ulaanbaatar, then the group heads out across the steppe for longer days in the saddle, camping in gers, before joining the crowds and colour of the Naadam Festival.

Accommodation & food

Traditional ger (yurt) camps out on the steppe.

All meals are included, with Mongolian cooking.

When to go

Best months: July, for Naadam

The trip is timed to the Naadam Festival in July; the wider riding season runs through the short Mongolian summer.

Getting there

Nearest airport: Ulaanbaatar (UBN); the first camp is about an hour away

Transfers: Transfers from Ulaanbaatar are arranged

Fly to Ulaanbaatar, then transfer to the yurt camp.
