About this yard

Established for over 20 years, Wapley Riding Stables is a 5-star licensed riding school and livery yard on Wapley Hill above the village of Westerleigh, near Yate. The yard is run by Lucy Hewlett, a BHS II qualified and accredited instructor, with an experienced team of grooms and coaches. Lessons run across individual, semi-private and group formats for riders from age four upwards, all levels welcome, from complete beginners to competition riders, on a string of horses and ponies from 10.2hh to 16.3hh.

Facilities include two floodlit outdoor arenas, a horse walker, a mini cross-country course and a full set of show jumps. Pony Club, Saddle Club and show jumping clinics run throughout the year alongside summer camps through the LH Riding Academy. Livery is available in full, part, DIY, working and schooling formats, and Lucy coaches on a freelance basis at other yards. The school is 5-star licensed by South Gloucestershire Council and ponies can be put on part loan for more experienced pupils.

Footwear

Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clothing

Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
