About this yard
Squirrel Wood Equestrian Centre was established in 2010 (originally at Weybourne, since relocated and expanded onto the Worstead Estate near the Norfolk Broads). It is a relaxed, friendly but professional yard offering quality tuition and hacking, with direct access to acres of off-road woodland riding across the estate.
Lessons take place in a full-size floodlit ménage, available as private, semi-private or group sessions, alongside hourly and half-hourly hacks. Both lessons and hacking are open to all ages and abilities, with horses and ponies selected for temperament. Equine therapy is offered and adults and children with special educational needs are welcomed. All staff are qualified, DBS checked, and hold first aid and safeguarding certificates.
The centre is the home of Worstead & District RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association), holding sessions every Tuesday morning during term time for local children and adults with disabilities.
Livery services and hourly ménage hire are available, and the centre caters for school groups and hen parties.

Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.
A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.
Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.
Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
Clients arriving in unsuitable clothing or footwear may not be permitted to ride, for their own safety. If in doubt, contact the yard before your visit.
