About this yard
Northaw Manor Equestrian Centre sits within a 560-acre private estate near Potters Bar, close to the North London border. The estate's scale gives it a range of terrain that is genuinely difficult to replicate at a smaller venue, bridleways, hacking routes and a cross-country course across varied country, all privately managed and not shared with the public.
The centre runs a regular programme of clinics and competitions throughout the year: cross-country schooling days, showjumping clinics, dressage sessions and affiliated competitions, all taught by BHS-qualified instructors. Riding lessons and hacking are available alongside the clinic programme, as are children's pony days and birthday parties.
Livery is available in full, part and DIY formats with year-round turnout. The combination of a well-managed schooling infrastructure and the extensive natural estate makes it a practical base for event riders and a more unusual choice for leisure riders who want to get off the arena surface occasionally.

What to wear
Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.
A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.
Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.
Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
Clients arriving in unsuitable clothing or footwear may not be permitted to ride, for their own safety. If in doubt, contact the yard before your visit.
