About this yard

An established riding school set in Lowton near Warrington, founded in June 1987 by Vicky, a former competition rider who trained at Northfield Riding Centre before setting up her own school. BHS approved and fully licensed with Wigan Borough Council, the centre caters for riders of all levels from complete beginners upwards.

Group lessons run in small batches of up to eight riders to ensure individual attention, with beginner lessons running at weekends and intermediate and advanced sessions available across the week. Private lessons are available on weekdays. Half-hour class lessons start from £14, rising to £30 for a half-hour private session.

Riding helmet

A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.

Footwear

Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clothing

Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
