About this yard
Leamside Equestrian sits at White House Farm, Pit House Lane, Leamside, near Houghton-le-Spring. The centre has been built out as a £1.5 million development aiming for North East centre-of-excellence status: an all-weather indoor competition arena, an outdoor arena, a therapy centre, hydrotherapy pool and equine spa, a modern Racewood horse simulator, a stud laboratory, veterinary inspection area, horse walker, new stable blocks and a 65-seat lecture room. Services span competitions, arena hire, coaching, livery and equine therapy. Riders from all disciplines and levels are welcome to use the facilities. Established as a family business in 2005 by Beverley and Philip Brown, who have restored the farm buildings over time. The centre has bred, trained and competed its own horses to FEI international level. Leamside Equestrian is a confirmed Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) location.

A hat to a current recognised safety standard. Requirements can vary, so check with the yard before you ride.
Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs should be covered, and waterproofs are worth having for outdoor lessons. Check with the yard if you are unsure.
Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
