About this yard
Finlake Riding Centre sits in the Teign valley on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, adjacent to Finlake Holiday Park, offering scenic off-road hacking through private parkland and woodland trails. All bridle tracks are all-weather surfaced, so riding continues whatever the weather.
All ages and standards are catered for, from gentle treks around the woodland trails on well-behaved cobs for complete beginners, to longer, more exhilarating rides for experienced riders, including cream tea and evening pub rides. Young children and nervous adults can opt for a half-hour lead-rein stroll, and very small children can ride the centre's miniature Shetland ponies. Private lessons run 7 days a week, half-hour one-to-one or hour-long group slots, for beginners through to advanced riders preparing for competition, on horses ranging from steady schoolmasters to competition mounts. Own horses are welcome.
Facilities include two all-weather floodlit arenas with a full set of coloured showjumps.

What to wear

A hat to a current recognised safety standard. Requirements can vary, so check with the yard before you ride.
Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs should be covered, and waterproofs are worth having for outdoor lessons. Check with the yard if you are unsure.
Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
