About this yard

East View Riding Centre has operated on the edge of Ashdown Forest in Chelwood Gate, near Haywards Heath, since 1974, three generations of the same family, with granddaughter Fionn now running the yard. It offers hacks and rides for riders aged 8 and up, from complete novices to experienced riders looking to build confidence, across private farmland and the Ashdown Forest. Groups are welcome for family outings and team-building days. Rides run Friday to Tuesday, 52 weeks a year, with evening rides in summer.

What to wear

Riding helmet

A hat to a current recognised safety standard. Requirements can vary, so check with the yard before you ride.

Footwear

Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
