About this yard
Bassingfield Riding School is a family-run riding school and livery yard close to Nottingham, established in 1954 by Shirley Thomas and still family-operated. It offers riding lessons for beginners through to advanced riders, on over 50 acres with a floodlit all-weather arena, showjumping and dressage paddocks, and a cross-country course with around 40 jumps.
Livery is available on a DIY, grass, part or full basis, though spaces are usually at capacity. The centre runs regular disabled riding sessions for individuals, groups and organisations including the Thera Trust, and NVQ and stable management training is also available. A tack shop with a made-to-measure saddle-fitting service is open to external customers by appointment.

What to wear

Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs should be covered, and waterproofs are worth having for outdoor lessons. Check with the yard if you are unsure.
Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
