About this yard
Turlood Equestrian Centre is a council-licensed riding school and trekking centre at Lesmahagow in South Lanarkshire. Lessons run for all ages and abilities, graded across levels, with private, shared and group formats, plus a children's canter club, a ladies' coffee morning group, a Junior Training Team and a Return to Riding group for those getting back in the saddle. Pony rides are offered for children from age 2.
One and two-hour treks run through the surrounding Scottish countryside and are suitable for complete beginners. The centre also runs camps, pony days, birthday parties, and a regular programme of shows, dressage and jumping competitions and leagues, plus visiting trainer clinics and arena hire.
Livery is available, and Turlood is one of the largest stockists of horses, ponies and cobs for sale in Scotland, with trial facilities and part exchanges.
Riding conditions: maximum one hour ride time, children under 14 must be supervised while riding, no jumping over 75cm, and hacking only in groups of three or more where all riders hold personal rider liability insurance.

What to wear
Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.
A hat to a current recognised safety standard. Requirements can vary, so check with the yard before you ride.
Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs should be covered, and waterproofs are worth having for outdoor lessons. Check with the yard if you are unsure.
Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
