The Knights of Middle England
About this yard
The Knights of Middle England in Warwick offers side saddle tuition for all levels alongside a genuinely distinctive experience package: a two-hour session combining a side saddle lesson wearing a period riding habit from their collection, followed by a hack around the grounds and a professional photoshoot.
Lessons are taught by an SSA-qualified instructor and cover all levels from first-timer through to working towards Side Saddle Association exam qualifications. Horses and ponies trained for side saddle work are available, so no previous experience or your own horse is needed. Habit hire in various colours and sizes is available for those who want to complete the look.
The centre teaches dressage, ring craft and jumping in the side saddle position, and hack rides across the grounds are included in the experience package. Founded by actor Karl Ude-Martinez, who began teaching fellow actors to look comfortable in the saddle for period roles before the business grew into a full jousting, archery, trick riding and side saddle school. The team provides Warwick Castle's official jousting entertainment and has worked on productions including Merlin, A Knight's Tale and Game of Thrones.
