About this yard
Scropton Riding for the Disabled Centre, on Watery Lane in the village of Scropton, South Derbyshire, is a purpose-built RDA centre that has been in operation for over 50 years, supporting around 300 participants a year with physical, learning, sensory, multiple, profound and mental health needs. Activities include riding, driving, horse care and horse agility. The site is largely level and step-free, with a mounting hoist, wheelchair-accessible carriages, a lift to the viewing gallery and disabled toilets. Indoor and outdoor arenas are available for hire when not in use for RDA activities.
Open Saturday to Thursday, offering both daytime and evening sessions, with participants needing to complete an application form before their first session.

Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.
A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.
Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.
Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
