About this yard
Murthwaite Green Trekking Centre is a family-run, BHS and ABRS approved horse riding centre run by Cath and Emma Wrigley, operating since 2002 from Silecroft on the Cumbrian coast, half a mile from Silecroft's golden sands at the edge of the Lake District National Park. Open all year round, its speciality is beach rides of 1 to 3 hours along the 7-mile coastline, ranging from gentle ambles to a gallop through the surf for more experienced riders.
Alongside beach rides, the centre offers half and full-day rides, fell rides, picnic and pub rides, and children's sessions of half an hour to an hour. Minimum age 4, no upper age limit, with a weight limit of 15.5 stone. The horses are sensible, coloured cob types, quiet enough for nervous riders but happy to canter or gallop given the chance. All guides are fully qualified ride leaders holding first aid and Riding and Road Safety qualifications.
