About this yard
Harwich Horse Rangers Association is the Harwich troop of the Horse Rangers Association, a uniformed voluntary youth movement founded nationally in 1954 by Raymond Gordon and established locally in 1990. A registered charity and Five Star licensed riding school, it teaches horsemanship and riding to young people aged 8 and up in the Tendring and Colchester area who do not have their own horse or pony.
The Association runs its own curriculum through which members work through levels and earn badges, alongside alternative education provision in term time and private lessons for children and adults. All instruction and horse care is delivered by volunteers and members, with around 29 horses and ponies. Prices are kept low to remain accessible, supported by fundraising.

What to wear
Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.
A hat to a current recognised safety standard. Requirements can vary, so check with the yard before you ride.
Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs should be covered, and waterproofs are worth having for outdoor lessons. Check with the yard if you are unsure.
Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
