About this yard

Hartwell Riding Stables is a family-run 5-star trading licence riding school at Foxglove Farm, Gibraltar, Dinton near Aylesbury, opened in September 2006 specialising in riding lessons and activities for children, since expanded to include residential camps and more advanced riding. All-weather 20m x 60m outdoor arena and bright indoor arena, both equipped with lights and training mirrors. Foxglove Farm also runs residential children's riding holidays for ages 6-14 with home-cooked meals and 17th-century thatched farmhouse accommodation. Emphasis on safety and structured progress. Sand-fibre arenas for year-round lessons. Pony camps, after-school sessions, lead-rein for young children.

What to wear

Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.

Riding helmet

A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.

Footwear

Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clothing

Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
