About this yard
Fossilfield Training Centre is a family-run, not-for-profit social enterprise on six acres near Auchinleck in East Ayrshire, founded in 2021 by Mercy McEwen, drawing on her background in point-to-point amateur racing. The centre uses end-of-career racehorses in an SQA-approved training programme that builds confidence, leadership and employability skills for young people, working closely with East Ayrshire Council's employability teams. Open to all abilities, with no barriers to access.
As a licensed ABRS riding establishment, Fossilfield also runs weekend Pony Clubs for those wanting to explore riding and equine sport in a more traditional setting.

What to wear
Standard guidance for equestrian yards in the UK. Check with your yard if you're unsure.
A hat to a current recognised safety standard. Requirements can vary, so check with the yard before you ride.
Sturdy boots with a small heel. Trainers and flat, smooth-soled shoes are not suitable for safety reasons. Check with the yard for their exact requirements.
Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs should be covered, and waterproofs are worth having for outdoor lessons. Check with the yard if you are unsure.
Long hair should be tied back before putting on your hat, and jewellery removed before riding.
