Sleeping with the Horses, South Iceland

Sleep in a cabin among the horses on a historic Njals Saga farm

A farm stay with Mr Iceland at Efri-Ulfsstadir in South Iceland, the historic setting of Njals Saga, where more than 60 Icelandic horses graze. You stay in cosy studio cabins set right in the horse pastures, with rides out across the farm and old Viking trails, a shared farm dinner and an evening of Icelandic saga storytelling in the story barn. Rides are gentle and matched to your level, from first-timers to confident riders, with an optional advanced ride out along the black-sand coast.

A herd of more than 60 Icelandic horses, gentle and sure-footed and famous for the smooth tolt gait, carefully matched to each rider.

A typical day

Evenings bring a shared Icelandic dinner off the stables and, at 8pm, a candlelit saga storytelling night in the story barn. Confident riders can add a ride along the black-sand coast.

Accommodation & food
