About this yard

A family-run BHS, ABRS and Pony Club approved riding centre established in 2003, sitting on the A38 just outside Dursley and within easy reach of Stroud, Gloucester and Bristol. The centre is owned by Renee Watkins, a BHS AI qualified instructor, and run jointly with her sister Naomi, also a qualified instructor. Specialist trainers visit regularly for dressage, showjumping and cross country clinics.

With 30 horses and ponies covering all sizes and abilities, Tumpy Green caters for complete beginners through to experienced competition riders and is open seven days a week across flexible timetables. Lessons run in group and private formats, and the yard holds a 5-star Animal Activity Licence (No. 23/01041/AWACT). Livery and vocational equestrian qualifications are also available on site.

From £50/hr

Group 3/4-hour lesson from £50 child / £55 adult (weekday/weekend). Evening group from £48 child. Semi-private 3/4hr from £60 child. Private 1hr from £100 child / £105 adult. 1-hr group hack £55. 5% discount on token packages of 5+. BHS, ABRS and Pony Club approved. Prices from January 2026.

Riding helmet

A correctly fitted hat to current safety standards (PAS 015 or VG1). Bicycle helmets are not permitted. Hats are available to hire, usually reserved for first-time riders.

Footwear

Boots with a small heel, riding boots, walking boots or wellies all work. Trainers and flat-soled shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.

Clothing

Close-fitting, weather-appropriate clothes. Shoulders and legs must be covered, no vest tops or shorts. Jackets and coats should be fastened securely. Waterproofs are recommended for outdoor lessons.

Hair & jewellery

Long hair should be tied back in a ponytail before putting on your helmet. All jewellery must be removed before riding.
